"Good News" for the Marketplace
This time of year a very large portion of the world celebrates the Good News of the Gospel: Immanuel—"God is with us". Consider these words telling of Jesus’ first coming which He read about Himself from ancient scrolls:
“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me,
because he has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives
and recovering of sight to the blind,
to set at liberty those who are oppressed,
to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor.”
Typically, when I meditate on The Savior's first coming, I think about His impact on people. My pastor has done a teaching recently on “Marketplace Faith” which has broadened my thinking on this somewhat. Is it possible that the good news of the gospel can impact the marketplace as well?
Flautt Hare Davis has had the privilege of working with a local company over the years which has helped me to better see God's impact on the world through the Marketplace. This year that company set aside a sizable sum of money for the purpose of meeting the needs of widows, orphans, poor and needy. As any member of their team saw a financial need in the people around them, they could request that the need be fulfilled from that sum of money.
But the story doesn’t stop there. That company also has a part time chaplain on staff. He not only delivers the money to pay the mortgage, utility bill, medical bill, etc. but he also meets with the ones in need to help with any other issue surrounding the financial hardship whether physical, emotional or spiritual. That’s what I call “Good News.”
My plan is to share more on this topic and others both on a blog on our website (www.fhdfinancial.com) as well as on Twitter (@JimDavisFHD). I would be blessed if you would check in from time to time. But for now…
Let’s celebrate the first Advent as we eagerly await the second.
